Energy Programs for Businesses

Programs for the Iowa Business Owner

Do you own a business in Iowa? Below are listed the programs that might benefit your Iowa business:

  • Building Operator Certification (BOC) Program
Building Operator Certification (BOC) is a competency-based training and certification for building operators offering improved job skills and more comfortable, efficient facilities. Operators earn certification by attending training and completing project assignments in their facilities. Training topics include facility electrical, HVAC and lighting systems, indoor air quality, environmental health and safety, and energy conservation. BOC certification provides a credential for professional development and opportunities for advancement in the workplace. Fifty percent of operators report increased compensation following achievement of their BOC certification. BOC improves the professionalism of facility departments. Employers report increased respect from building occupants and tenants by equipping operators with the skills to be more responsive to complaints about air quality and comfort control. BOC saves money for companies by improving the energy efficiency of heating and cooling systems, and enabling operators to be proactive in compliance with environmental regulations affecting facility operations and maintenance. BOC certification is recognized by employers in twenty states, including Iowa, as certification of value and benefit for operators in their organization.
  • IEC Business Grants
Commercial grants awarded through the Iowa Energy Center
  • IEC Grant Program
The Energy Center awards grants to Iowa-based, nonprofit groups to conduct energy-related research, demonstration and education projects. These projects, which range in size and complexity, are conducted throughout the state including Iowa's three major universities, several community colleges and at nonprofit energy organizations and community-based educational groups. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis through periodic Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Energy Resource Station
The Energy Resource Station (ERS) is known for researching cost effective, energy efficient technologies for commercial and industrial building performance with real-time, real-life conditions and on-line HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems.
  • National Building Controls Information Program
The National Building Controls Information Program (NBCIP) was established by the Iowa Energy Center with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to facilitate the adoption of energy efficient building control products and strategies through testing, demonstration, education and dissemination of product information.
  • National Lighting Products Information Program
The Iowa Energy Center is a member-partner of the Lighting Research Center (LRC). The LRC and its subsidiary, the National Lighting Products Information Program (NLPIP), are some of the nation's best, objective sources of manufacturer-specific performance information on energy-efficient lighting products.
  • Rebuild Iowa
Rebuild Iowa is a collaborative initiative designed to help communities identify, implement, and finance cost-effective energy efficiency improvements.
