IEC Grant
Program
The Energy Center awards grants to Iowa-based, nonprofit groups
to conduct energy-related research, demonstration and education
projects. These projects, which range in size and complexity, are
conducted throughout the state including Iowa's three major
universities, several community colleges and at nonprofit energy
organizations and community-based educational groups. Grants are awarded
on a competitive basis through periodic Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Center for
Industrial Service and Research
The Iowa DNR, along with Iowa State University (ISU), is
participating in the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s (DOE) Industries of the
Future program. The goal of the program is to improve industrial
efficiency and productivity nationwide by lowering raw material and
energy use per unit output, improve labor and capital productivity, and
reduce the generation of wastes and pollutants. The DNR and ISU are
focusing on metal casting and agriculture, and have received grants from
the DOE to pursue efficiency improvements in these sectors.

Total Assessment Audit (TAA)
The Iowa Energy Center is the principal sponsor of the TAA
program. The TAA project goal is achieved through a holistic assessment
of the company's facilities, including it's process(es), using expertise
from the fields of industrial productivity, energy efficiency, and waste
reduction to collectively meet the objectives listed below.
- Industrial
Assessment Center
The Industrial Assessment Center at Iowa State University provides
small- and medium-sized manufacturers comprehensive assessments to
improve productivity, reduce waste and save energy. The center has
conducted more than 225 assessments since its inception, saving an
average of $55,000 annually in energy costs per client.

Compress Air Challenge
The Compressed Air Challenge is a voluntary collaboration of
industrial users: manufacturers, distributors and their associations,
facility operating personnel and their associations, consultants, state
research and development agencies, energy efficiency organizations, and
utilities. This group has one purpose in mind, helping the public enjoy
the benefits of improved performance of their compressed air systems. In
Iowa the program is run by the Iowa Energy Center.

Steam Challenge
This program is ideal for steam system owners and equipment or service
providers. The program offers ways to improved steam system productivity
and increased profits by using the programs BestPractices tools. In Iowa
the program is run by the Iowa Energy Center.
