Energy Programs for Renewable Energy
Programs for the Iowa Agricultural Community
The following programs are designed to assist in the further development of
Iowa's renewable energy resources: General
-
Alternate Energy Revolving Loan Program (AERLP)
The Alternate Energy Revolving Loan Program (AERLP) was created by the
Iowa Legislature in 1996 (1997 Iowa Code: Section 476.46) to promote the
development of renewable energy production facilities in the state. The
$5.9 million of AERLP funds were provided entirely through Iowa's
investor-owned utilities and the Iowa Energy Center was chosen by the
Legislature to manage the program.
-
IEC Grant
Program
The Energy Center awards grants to Iowa-based, nonprofit groups
to conduct energy-related research, demonstration and education
projects. These projects, which range in size and complexity, are
conducted throughout the state including Iowa's three major
universities, several community colleges and at nonprofit energy
organizations and community-based educational groups. Grants are awarded
on a competitive basis through periodic Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

IEC Biomass Grants
Biomass grants awarded by the Iowa Energy Center.
- Biomass
Energy Conversion Center (BECON)
Bridging the gaps between laboratory research and real world
applications is a hallmark of the Iowa Energy Center. In this tradition, the
Energy Center created the Biomass Energy CONversion facility (BECON), located
in Nevada, Iowa. BECON is a focal point for developing value-added products
from Iowa's abundant biomass resources. It provides credible, firsthand
information on biomass technologies to create fuels and chemicals, as well as
demonstrations of pilot-scale biomass conversion systems.
