Environmental Education Iowa Energy Poster Contest draws near
(Cedar Falls, Iowa) -- Light bulbs are popping over the heads of students
around the state as buzz about the Iowa Energy Poster Contest builds. Poster
ideas, not electricity, are already being generated. This statewide contest
gives first through sixth grade children the opportunity to create a poster that
focuses on the importance of energy conservation or renewable sources of energy.
The Iowa Energy Poster Contest gives students a fresh outlook on how they can
make a difference in the community. They will learn that things such as using
clothespins instead of dryers and roller skates instead of cars will help the
environment. The contest also has a new look. A new Iowa Energy Poster Contest
logo and writing tablet serve as great tools to encourage simple energy
conservation.
Posters can be submitted on an individual basis or through local schools.
Local contests may be hosted by utility providers or organizations interested in
energy efficiency and renewable energy. Any group interested should contact the
Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) for free assistance. The
CEEE will help with all aspects of the local contest, including judging. A
local contest deadline of Feb. 1 is suggested. Submissions for the statewide
contest must be postmarked by Mar. 1. Entries can be submitted to your local
contest provider or the University of Northern Iowa’s CEEE. Poster contest
winners will be honored at a ceremony at the Des Moines State Capitol and
receive a $100 savings bond. In addition to this, their work will be showcased
in the Traveling Art Gallery, which is displayed in schools, museums and
businesses. For more information about the Iowa Energy Poster Contest, please
