Calculating Savings from Replacing Your Air Conditioner

When you replace your older inefficient air conditioner with a new efficient air conditioner, you will save money on your air conditioning costs.  How much you save depends on how often your run your air conditioner and the efficiencies of the old and new air conditioners.  The following formula is used to estimate annual dollar savings:

Formula

( ( Existing Capacity in Btu/hr / Existing SEER Efficiency ) - ( proposed Capacity in Btu/hr / Proposed SEER Efficiency )) x Cooling Load Hours / 1000 x Cost/kwh = Annual Dollar Savings

Variables Described

Existing Capacity = Found on name plate.
Existing SEER Efficiency = Get from SEER Table.
Proposed Capacity = Get from vendor.
Proposed SEER Efficiency = Get from vendor.
Cooling Load Hours = Get from Cooling Load Hour Table.
Cost/kwh = Get from dividing kwh on bill by total for bill.
