  • Top-Rated Energy Efficient Appliances
ACEEE has been publishing a list of the most energy efficient appliances for many years.  This information is now on the web. When you buy an appliance, you commit to paying not only the first cost, but also the operating cost for as long as you own it. And over the life of an appliance, the energy cost to run it can be many times greater than the first cost. So it pays to buy an energy-efficient appliance.  This site gives you a list of the top-rated refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes washers, air conditioners, furnaces, and water heaters.
  • ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
  • ENERGY SAVERS: Tips on Saving Energy and Money at Home
The DOE's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy web site has a good online document for analyzing your home's energy consumption and developing a plan to improve its energy efficiency.
  • E-Star Online Energy Calculations
E-Star Iowa has developed some handy online calculations that can help you make informed energy decisions. The simplified calculations are designed to tell you how you can expect to save by: adding insulation, reducing air infiltration, replacing your furnace or air conditioner, or by replacing your windows.
  • Consumer Reports Water Saving Tips
Consumer Reports lists 50 ways to live with less water. Most can be done for little or no cost. Keep in mind that making just one or two changes can make a major difference. Fixing leaky toilets, for instance, can save more than 100 gallons of water a day.
  • DOE Home Energy Efficiency Information
The Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), through the Buildings Technologies Program, works closely with the building industry and manufacturers to conduct research and development on technologies and practices for energy efficient houses and multi-family buildings. Moreover, EERE’s consumer information service provides fact sheets that can directly answer home energy efficiency questions.
