The B3 Learning Lab will guide building managers through the steps between collecting energy data to developing proposals for energy efficiency upgrades. The B3 Learning Lab is designed to provide B3 users an opportunity to refine their skills and maximize the value of B3 data summaries for the purpose of presenting energy efficiency proposals to upper management. The session is scheduled as a pre-conference event for the Iowa Energy Summit and will be held on November 7, 2018, at Prairie Meadows Conference Center in Altoona. There is no cost to participate for eligible attendees. The training is limited to one individual per public organization with a B3 portfolio and seating is limited. A waiting list will be started if the event is filled.

Registration is available through the Iowa Energy Summit Registration page. You do not need to register for the entire Summit (fee applies) in order to participate in the training.

The B3 Public Building Energy Benchmarking tool allows organizations to easily identify which buildings are consuming more or less energy than expected, compare energy use to prior years, and compare buildings similar to their own. By identifying which buildings are in most need of energy improvements, organizations can better prioritize energy efficiency projects to minimize their investment for the maximum savings. After energy improvements are made, participants are also able to see how their investments are paying off by monitoring actual cost-benefit over time. The goals of the B3 Learning Lab include:

  • Provide an opportunity for those with B3 accounts to use their data to develop a presentation to upper management to support an energy efficiency project or strategy

  • Gain insight from experts on selling energy efficiency ideas

  • Provide a time for peer networking with other B3 users

  • Offer in person technical assistance from the B3 vendor

The B3 Benchmarking platform is sponsored by the Iowa Economic Development Authority Energy Office. Public organizations in the state can join the B3 program at no cost. More information on the B3 Program is found at https://ia.b3benchmarking.com/.
