Presenter Profiles

Pamela Brookstein is a Project Manager with Elevate Energy. In this role, she works to ensure the value of high performance and solar homes are visible in real estate transactions. She manages the Value for High Performance initiative and has expertise in engaging various sectors of the real estate community on issues such as energy efficiency and solar. A particularly favorite part of her work is teaching solar and energy efficiency classes to Realtors.


Dan Clark, is the Director of Iowa Prison Industries (IPI), a work training program for men and women incarcerated within Iowa's nine state prisons. Every day, more than 900 men and women in the IPI program learn to weld, learn to work as a team, learn to use the tools of lean manufacturing, and learn the skills that will help them obtain good paying jobs upon their release. IPI work training programs provide Iowa employers with a skilled and motivated workforce, and improve the success rate for reentering citizens. Prior to joining IPI, Dan spent 30 years in private industry. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Buffalo and an M.S. from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Dan and his spouse Kristin reside in West Des Moines, Iowa.


Natalia Gardocki is a Program Associate with MEEA, working on residential energy efficiency programs. In this role, she helps manage programs in Missouri and Illinois, leads an initiative focused on educating Illinois real estate professionals on energy efficiency, and provides support in the implementation of various other residential programs. Before joining MEEA, Natalia earned her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Communications from Loyola University.


Jeff Geerts is a member of the State Energy Office at the Iowa Economic Development Authority. He oversees implementation of the Iowa Green Streets Criteria to support development of high-performance housing and community facility projects. Jeff also supports IEDA’s disaster resilience and disaster recovery project management efforts as well as Downtown Assessments with the Iowa Downtown Resource Center. Jeff might be best described as a chief collaboration officer or the person that connects the dots to take projects from vision to reality.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree in management science and statistics from St. Ambrose University and master’s degree in public administration from Drake University.


Steve Guyer is the Energy and Climate Policy Specialist at the Iowa Environmental Council, bringing years of experience and leadership in the energy field. Since 2008, Steve has owned and led GWA International, a solar company that designs and installs solar systems. Prior to 2008, Steve held several key environmental positions with Iowa utilities. Steve holds a JD from the University of Iowa, a BA in Physics from the University of Northern Iowa, and an AA in Electronics Engineering from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo.


Joe Hejda is a home performance and electrification nerd which has led him to his current role at CIPCO as their Manager of Smart Electrification.

His favorite part of his job is helping educate his members and encouraging solutions that improve lives beyond savings.

Joe graduated from West Point with an economics degree and from Iowa’s Tippie MBA program with a finance focus.


Anne Kimber, P.E., Ph.D. As Director of the Electric Power Research Center (EPRC) at Iowa State University I work with ISU power program faculty research teams and industry partners to build collaborations that advance education and research in electric power systems. Together we work to solve the most challenging problems of the electric grid, from development of better tools for customer-side energy efficiency, demand-response and AMI analysis, to projects that include energy storage integration at multiple scales ranging from microgrid development to large scale co-optimized grid expansion planning. EPRC’s industry members jointly select and fund projects of common interest to the group, and also participate in ISU DOE and NSF grants, as well as in grants from non-profits and state agencies. Before joining ISU in 2014, I worked for over 14 years with Iowa municipal electric, gas and water utilities at the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities.


Steven Koep is the founder of the Beneficial Electrification League (BEL) and an independent Beneficial Electrification Ambassador.  With specific expertise and experience in the evolving Electric Water Heating, Demand Response, Renewable Storage and Beneficial Electrification (BE) markets, Steve has over 25 years of experience working with the electric utility industry to develop new opportunities for leading-edge electrification, energy efficiency and clean energy technologies.


Steve Letendre, PhD is a Principal Associate with Synapse Energy Economics and lead the Iowa Energy Storage Study. Dr. Letendre has over 25 years of experience as an energy economist and policy analyst focusing on the electric power sector. He is a member of the Synapse wholesale markets team and provides economic and policy analysis on a range of electric sector issues. He is an expert in utility economic analysis and has authored dozens of reports and articles in leading energy publications.


Andrea Marr, PE, serves as a Director at Willdan Energy Solutions. She manages development of smart cities and distributed energy for commercial, industrial and municipal clients. Andrea has served as a project manager for Regatta Solutions, a microgrid project developer. She is a graduate of the US Naval Academy serving with the USS Princeton as a gunnery officer and USS Nimitz as a nuclear engineering officer. She holds a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.


Kevin Nordmeyer, AIA, LEED AP is an architect and a Principal at BNIM Architects in Des Moines. 

He has served as a pioneer in sustainable design in Iowa, leading the creation of Iowa’s first model sustainable buildings in the 1990’s and the first LEED Platinum collegiate facilities In Iowa in the late 2000’s.  Kevin’s body of work has received more than 45 state, regional, and national AIA design awards.

Prior to joining BNIM in 2011, Kevin served as Director of the Iowa Energy Center at Iowa State University (ISU) and over the years has served on several environmental and energy boards and commissions in Iowa.  He has also served as a lecturer periodically between 2003 - 2012 in the Department of Architecture at ISU’s College of Design, focused on multidisciplinary sustainable design.

In 2008, Kevin was awarded the ISU College of Design’s Design Achievement Award in recognition for substantial contribution to the discipline of architecture. In 2017, Kevin received the AIA Iowa Medal of Honor, the highest recognition bestowed upon an individual from the AIA Iowa chapter, for his continued contributions to the profession and leadership in sustainable design.


Jim Sayers - For over 34 years, Jim Sayers worked for Corn Belt Power Cooperative, an Iowa-based generation and transmission rural electric cooperative, leading efforts in public relations, marketing, information services and energy efficiency. After retirement from Corn Belt Power, he proudly became a “Beneficial Electrification” ambassador—sharing stories and experiences about the advantages of living better electrically!

Today he works as cooperative engagement coordinator for the Geo Exchange Organization, a national non-profit trade association promoting the manufacture, design and installation of geothermal heating and cooling systems. Jim loves promoting, speaking and planning to help people move toward common goals, provide service, encourage others, improve communities and enable creativity.


Jason Steinbock, PE, BEMP, LEED® AP BD+C, a Director of Business Development at Willdan, has over 20 years of experience providing design, development, and comparative energy analysis for demand side management commercial new construction programs. Jason’s speaking engagements include presentations to AIA, AESP, ACEEE, ECEEE and ASHRAE audiences. A professional engineer, he is also an ASHRAE Certified Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and a LEED Accredited Professional.
